Global Orca Charity was formed on July 1, 2022, under the Nonprofit Public Benefit Corporation Law (of California) for public and charitable purposes. Our corporate status may be verified through the California Secretary of State’s website.
We have been granted 501(c)(3) status (i.e., the United States Internal Revenue Service (IRS) recognizes that the Global Orca Charity is a tax-exempt public charity to which donors can deduct contributions they make). You can confirm our status through the IRS website.
The Global Orca Charity is also registered with the California Attorney General’s Registry of Charitable Trusts. You can confirm our registration through the AG’s website.

Goals and Objectives of the Global Orca Charity
- Promote scientific research & public education about natural & human-caused threats to wild and captive orca (killer whales, Orcinus orca).
- Respond to orca in distress with expertise and resources to assist in rescue, rehab & release.
- Create reports, publish in professional journals, participate in conferences, provide literature to the public to better understand and protect orca.
- Help develop international standards for orca ocean sanctuaries.
Generation of Revenue
Donations from members of the public are made through Stripe and occasionally private benefactors support the work of the GOC through direct donations. Micro-donations are made by the public via a ‘donate’ button on the GOC website.
Remuneration and Reimbursement Policy
The GOC board members do not receive any monetary compensation for their service on the board. The GOC has no paid staff members and regularly utilizes volunteers to assist with projects. Individual board members may make a request to the full board for reimbursement for necessary and incidental expenses incurred while carrying out their official duties in furtherance of the objectives of the GOC, subject to approval by majority vote of the board.
